Likely and Unlikely

TO BE LIKELY TO si usa quando si vuole parare della possibilità  che qualcosa accada, solitamente viene usato per riferirsi ad eventi futuri.

ESEMPIO 

• Pamela is likely to pass the exam tomorrow, she's studying hard.
• The Italian swimmer is likely to win the race tomorrow.
• The are likely to ask you about your skills in the interview tomorrow.

Si usa questa frase quando si è quasi certi che qualcosa accada ma non se ne può avere la certezza.

Il contrario di likely è unlikely e si usa se si è quasi certi che qualcosa non possa accadere.

ESEMPIO

• It's unlikely to pass my exam tomorrow.
• It's unlikely that England will win the football World Cup.

To be likely to e to be unlikely to possono essere usati anche per parlare del passato o del presente, basta cambiare la forma del verbo to be

• It was unlikely that Sarah knew that her boyfriend was a criminal when she first met him.
