Le preposizioni e la -ing form

In inglese il verbo che segue direttamente una preposizione è sempre al gerundio (forma in -ing).

Richiedono l'uso del gerundio:

• le preposizioni after (dopo), before (prima di), besides (oltre a), instead of (invece di), without (senza).
•  tutti gli aggettivi e i verbi accompagnati da preposizione. Fra i più comuni:

to be afraid of = aver paura di
to be fond of/ to be keen on = essere appassionato di
to be tired of = essere stanco di
to be used to = essere solito
to get used to = abituarsi
to apologize for = scusarsi per / di
to go on = continuare a
to  insist to = insistere nel
to look foward to = non vedere l'ora di
to succeed in = riuscire a
to thank for = ringraziare per / di
to feel like = avere voglia di

Alcuni esempi:

- After studying she often watches TV. 
- I'm afraid of meeting him.
-Instead of chatting, do your duty!
- They're looking foward to having their holiday together !
